The Haryana Education Department announced schools in the state may re-open from July 27 while universities and colleges will remain shut till July 31. The order further added “e-learning for the students may be continued” and a decision on the reopening of higher education centres would be taken after consultation with vice-chancellors and all stakeholders.
Last month the Haryana Education Minister, Kanwar Pal Gujjar said schools would reopen in a phased manner from July 1, while colleges and universities will open from August. The minister had said, “We will do it in a phased manner by starting teaching work for classes 10, 11 and 12 on July 1; for classes 6, 7, 8 and 9 after 15 days; and for the primary classes from August.”
Meanwhile, the High Court of Punjab and Haryana permitted Punjab private schools to collect tuition and admission fees.The HC bench led by Justice Nirmajlit Kaur ruled that private schools are entitled to collect tuition fee irrespective of whether they offered online classes during the lockdown period or not.
Jagdish Rai Sharma, founder president of Punjab Affiliated Recognised Schools Association (PARSA), is elated with the ruling. “Many parents believe private institutions extort money but they do not realise that we have actually improved the quality of education in the country. If they do not pay fees, we will be forced to shut our institutions,” he said.
