Overview

SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Faridabad is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. The school was founded in 1986 by Shri JN Kaul, the then president, SOS Children’s Village of India, to cater to the needs of SOS Children’s Village of India. However, today, only 20 percent of the total school strength comprises children from SOS Children’s Villages whereas 80 percent are from general category.

The school is managed by the SOS Children’s Villages of India through HGS committees and prepares students for the secondary and senior secondary examination conducted by CBSE Delhi.

Campus

The 8 acre school campus hosts a main building which houses spacious, octagonal classrooms and modern amenities for conducive teaching-learning process. The class rooms are designed and planned in such a manner that each classroom is independent and free from disturbance from other classrooms. The school building also hosts a computer center, well equipped modern laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, math, and psychology, a well-stocked library, a multipurpose auditorium, interactive classrooms, a spacious cultural centre for training in music, dance and drama, a cafeteria an infirmary.

The sports infrastructure includes a basketball court, table tennis facilities, a multipurpose ground, courts for volleyball, basketball, badminton and throw ball, facilities for athletics and board games such as carom and chess. The school campus also houses a gymnasium and two big play grounds with slides and swings.

Academics

Affiliated with CBSE, the school offers classes from nursery to class XII (medical, non-medical, commerce and humanities). The curriculum is a perfect blend of academics and arts and co-curricular activities i.e. sports, hobbies and community welfare activities. The school also organises seminars and offers career counseling for class XII students and informative sessions for senior classes. Eco-friendly activities, anti-tobacco march, anti-crackers program, cleanliness drives and literacy programs in nearby villages are also organised.

Admission

Admission is offered without any distinction based on religion, race, caste, place of birth etc.

Application forms are available at the school office from mid March depending and all admissions close by July 31. Transfer cases from other states can be considered against vacancy even during the running session.

For admission to nursery, the age eligibility is 3 years plus as on April 1 of the academic year in which admission is sought and 30 percent of seats in LKG are reserved for BPL card holders/ EWS (Economically weaker section). For admission to class I, the student must have completed 5 years of age as on April 1 of the academic year.

Admission from pre-primary to class VIII is done on ‘first come first served’ basis.

For admission to class IX, candidates must pass an entrance test in Hindi, English, mathematics and general science.

For admission in class XI, counseling is conducted for HGS students and for other students, entrance test is conducted based on the stream offered. Admission is subject to availability of seats.

Admissions to classes X and XII are strictly governed by CBSE norms. Admission to other classes shall purely depend on the vacancy and merit of the student.
