Kids these days! You just can’t seem to manage them. They’re so aggressive and demanding and have a mind of their own. If they don’t get their heart’s desire, they whine away, they are very harsh at you, they are aggressive and even hit you!

For a kid, throwing a tantrum is about:

  • How can I get to do what I want to do?

  • How can I get you to do what I want you to do

  • How can I make sure that you let me do what I want to do?

So what’s the way out?

The way out is not as easy but it’s very simple. We need to train ourselves as parents not to give in when your child asks for something which he should not have for a good reason. Do what he/she might, DO NOT GIVE IN!

Remember – as long as the tantrum show is not causing physical injury to you or themselves, DO NOT REACT no matter how tempting it is.

If you want to give them what they are asking for, give it at the outset, before they start the tantrums and never after, so that they realise that tantrums don’t work with you and will not resort to them going forward.
