IIT Roorkee professor receives Digital India 2022 Silver Icon Award

Professor Shishir Sinha from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee’s Department of Chemical Engineering has been felicitated with Digital India 2022 Silver Icon Award on behalf of Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET).

The award was given by President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmuji under the category of “Best web & Mobile initiatives complying with GIGW & Accessibility Guidelines”

Sinha presently holds the position of Director General, CIPET (Dept of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India). He is among the leading academicians in India who are working on technologies of national importance which includes waste polymer to value-added products.

The award is a befitting recognition of the outstanding contributions of the brand CIPET to national development for Exemplary Initiatives in Digital Governance.

The Government of India has adopted a Digital India vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The Digital India awards 2022 presents an opportunity to bring to the fore the digital initiatives. These awards are to encourage and honour innovative digital solutions by government entities at all levels. DIA 2022 aims to inspire and motivate not only government entities but also startups in fulfilling the Digital India vision.

Along with the President of India, the Minister for Electronics and IT Communications and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Alkesh Kumar Sharma were also present during the event in New Delhi, along with other dignitaries. The award ceremony was held on January 7, 2023.

Shishir Sinha said,“CIPET being a 54-year-old organisation started digitising its activities in a phased manner with the support and guidance of DCPC. These initiatives facilitate the students, customers, industry and all the stakeholders to know updated information on the STAR activities that are being carried out by CIPET.” He further added, “This type of highest recognition boosts the morale of employees in making CIPET Atmanirbhar.”
