Inaugurated in November 1984, Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) is the oldest engineering college of Lucknow. IET, which admitted its first batch of 200 students in 1984, has now grown to 1,500 students. Accredited by AICTE, the institute is affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) also known as the Gautam Buddh Technical University. The SEE (State Entrance Examination) -- admission test for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for all engineering colleges in the state of Uttar Pradesh -- as well as the online counseling process is conducted by UPTU. IET is fully financed by the UP state government and is administered by the IET Society (registered under the Societies Act 1860) through its Board of Governors. Initially, the institute offered B.Tech degree in three branches, namely Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics. Within a year, two more branches i.e. Civil and Mechanical were introduced and now it boasts the departments of Chemical Engineering, Applied Sciences, Bio Technology and Business Administration.
Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow is the oldest engineering college of Lucknow. It was the first state government engineering college to conduct classes on its own campus.
