Jain University was originally started as Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) in 1990 by Dr. Chenraj Roychand and declared as deemed to be university in 2009 by under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of HRD of the Union Government. The university boasts nearly 500 faculty members and over 8500 students from India and abroad.
Jain University is certified ISO 9001:2008 by TÜV Rhein land for its quality management and it is a member of Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP). The university offers 185 UG and PG courses, interdisciplinary certificate courses, research programmes and about 63 national and international collaborations with the world’s leading universities and organisations in UK, Germany, USA, Canada, Russia etc.

The university has 13 campuses across Bengaluru and Ramanagara districts. The university infrastructure includes a library stocked with 1,11,085 books, 173 journals, over 2000 Ebsco online journals and seating arrangement for more than 100 readers, air-conditioned and virtually sound proof radio and media studio, IT Centre with high speed internet access including Wi-Fi connectivity, state-of-the-art laboratories, hi-tech laboratory for bacterial culture, animal culture, plant tissue culture and instrumentation, technology enabled air conditioned classrooms, air-conditioned theatre style seminar hall, well equipped auditorium with modern acoustical and state-of-the-art facilities, gymnasium and a multi-cuisine cafeteria.
