Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Chendayad, Kannur, Kerala is a co-educational residential government school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Established in 1987, JNV Kannur’s first batch of class VI students was admitted on January 19, 1988 and completed class XII in March 1994.
JNV Kannur boasts 459 students from class VI through XII with two sections up to class X, comprising of about 40 students each. The school retains about 45 eligible students for science stream at class XI and conducts mini-migration of the remaining, transferring them to neighboring JNVs of Mahe, Kasaragode and Kozhikode to pursue their opted streams.
JNV Kannur is part of the JNV group of schools which are fully financed and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organisation, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti whose basic objective is to provide access to quality education to the children predominantly from rural areas.
The 25-acre school campus hosts a well resourced library, well equipped labs, spacious classrooms, multipurpose hall, medical infirmary, indoor games room and a play ground.
The school offers schooling from class VI through XII with syllabus prescribed by the CBSE. For classes VI to X three languages Malayalam, English and Hindi along with the core subjects science, mathematics and social studies are taught. The subjects at senior secondary level include English, chemistry, physics and mathematics as core subjects.
The school follows CCE assessment system with special stress on curricular and co curricular development which include activities such as PT and games, art and music, public speaking, dramatics, dance and other cultural events.

Admissions to JNVs are made through national level competitive examination conducted by the CBSE called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). The test is nonverbal, class neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages. Children are admitted at class VI level and admissions to classes IX and XI are made against the vacant seats through regional level examination/marks in the previous qualifying examination.
