Overview

Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Ranchi is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Established in 1972, Jawahar Vidya Mandir came into being with the basic objective of providing quality education to the wards of MECON/SAIL employees. The school offers education from nursery through class XII and is managed by a School Managing Committee appointed by MECON, a Government of India Enterprise under Ministry of Steel. The school boasts 5500 students.

Campus

Spread over 5.6 acres, the school campus houses the three separate sections – primary, secondary and senior secondary school. The campus facilities include a library stocked with 20000 books, seven well-equipped modern science laboratories, a math lab, two computer labs of which one has internet facility reserved for use of class XII students, multipurpose hall for indoor games and various co-curricular activities, a conference hall for hosting lectures, seminars, career counseling session etc and a multimedia room.

The school also has a nursery park and a playground, four water towers with water purifiers for providing safe drinking water to the students and provision of rain water harvesting.

Academics

Affiliated with CBSE, the school offers classes from nursery through class XII. In the nursery and preprimary classes, children learn English, Hindi, mathematics and art. Classes I to X have English, Hindi, mathematics, environmental science, general knowledge, art, health education, moral values and SUPW. However from class V onwards students have an extra subject as third language – Sanskrit. In classes XI and XII, the school offers science, arts and commerce streams.

Admission

Registrations begin in the month of November every year. The age eligibility for admission to nursery is 3.5 to 4.5 years as on March 31 of the year in which admission is sought.

Admissions for preprimary to class IX take place in April/May; admissions are subject to availability of seats and are on merit basis.

Admissions to class XI are conducted in March and are based on marks secured in the entrance test.
