Overview

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru is a well-known multidisciplinary research institute promoted in 1989 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India with the aim to pursue and promote world-class research and training. Recognised as a deemed university, JNCASR offers a vibrant academic atmosphere with more than 300 researchers.

Campus

The JNCASR campus hosts a well resourced library, online journals, guest house, and Veeco-India nanotechnology laboratory. The campus also houses sports facilities for students.

Academics

Researchers at the JNCASR are categorized into seven units: chemistry and physics of materials, engineering mechanics, evolutionary and organismal biology, molecular biology and genetics, theoretical sciences, educational technology and geodynamics.There are two off-campus units- chemical biology and condensed matter theory. JNCASR support a wide range of educational outreach activities every year, and also conducts short term courses at universities across India. It regularly hosts lectures from eminent speakers from different walks of life.

Admission

Eligibility for Ph.D Candidates with an M Sc., B.E, B.Tech, M.E, M.Tech or MBBS are eligible to apply. They should have at least 50percent in their highest university examination, and should also have qualified in the GATE/UGC-/CSIR-NET-JRF/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/JEST/INSPIRE or any other equivalent national level examination. Eligibility for M.S (Eng) /M.S (Research) Candidates with an M Sc., B.E, B.Tech, M.E, M.Tech or MBBS are eligible to apply. They should have at least 50percent in their highest university examination, and should also have qualified in the GATE /UGC/CSIR - NET-JRF/ICMR -JRF/DBT-JRF/JEST / INSPIRE or any other equivalent national level examination. Achievement

JNCASR is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and is a deemed university. JNCASR has been ranked among top 15 national universities in Indiaby the Education World C-fore Survey 2015.

Accommodation

JNCASR hosts separate accommodation facility for boys and girls. Besides hygienic food, the student hostels provide recreational facilities include TVs, indoor games, health club, and PCOs etc. Each hostel has its live-in wardens, a member of faculty who administers the hostels.
