The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Friday, declared that the online entrance exam for undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil and PhD courses will be held in May 2019 instead of December 2018 as per the previous schedule.
The university is teaming up with the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the test. “JNU is the first Central University to be collaborating with NTA to conduct its national-level entrance examination. To make them accessible to applicants from remote areas, the number of examination centres will be doubled… Mock test centres will be introduced to familiarise applicants with computer-based entrance examinations,” Indian Express quoted registrar Pramod Kumar.
Apart from re-scheduling the examination, the university also changed the format to multiple choice questions, a decision opposed by some faculty members. “The VC informed the academic council members that a vast majority of faculty members have enthusiastically extended their cooperation by submitting MCQ papers to the admissions office in time,” he said.
However, the JNU teacher’s association (JNUTA) alleged that the teachers were not allowed to discuss the format of the entrance examination during the Friday meeting.
