results

The results of Karnataka state board’s second pre-university examinations were announced on Friday. At least 74.67% of students who appeared for the exams passed. The pass percentage improved by 12% as compared to the previous year.

Announcing the results, R Ramachandran, director, Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board said that among the regular students, the pass percentage was higher at 78.97%.

Tabassum Shaik, a student from NMKRV PU College for women has secured the highest marks in arts (593/600), Ananya K A, a student from Alva’s PU Collee, Mangaluru has secured a perfect 600 in Commerce. In the science stream, S M Kaushik from Gangothri PU College, Kolar and Surabhi from RV PU College NMKRV have secured a score of 596.

This year, the girl students have fared better than boys with nearly a 10% difference in the pass percentage.

Out of the 5.24 lakh students who appeared for second PU exams this year, 1.09 lakh students passed with distinction (score of above 85%) and 2.47 lakh scored first class (60-85%).

This year, 10,153 students were given 5% grace marks in two subjects to allow them to secure a passing mark in the examinations.

Ramachandran said that those students who are unhappy with the results can reject the same and appear for the supplementary examinations and attempt for a better score.

Tough subject

It maybe recollected that this year, students had rued that the Chemistry paper was not set as per blueprint and that several questions were application based, rendering it difficult for them to attempt all questions. Even a forum of chemistry lecturers had submitted representations asking for a liberal evaluation.

While the number of centums is higher in all other science stream subjects — as many as 1,599 in Physics, 2,704 in Mathematics, 5,335 in Computer Science — a mere 324 students in Chemistry and 336 students in electronics secured the perfect score.
