Karnataka budget 2022: Free online coaching for competitive exam aspirants

The Karnataka government, in its state Budget 2022 has announced a new scheme to offer free online coaching for aspirants of various competitive exams.  

Presenting the Karnataka state Budget 2022 on Friday, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “Free coaching facility will be provided through online platform for KPSC, UPSC, SSC, Banking, Railway, CDS, NEET, JEE and other various competitive examinations under a new scheme named ‘Mukhyamantri Vidhyarthi Margadarshini’”

This was among the several other announcements pertaining the higher education sector. Bommai said that the state government is also working towards bringing 215 Government First Grade Colleges under NAAC accreditation process and courses in 40 Government Polytechnic Colleges and 4 Government Engineering Colleges under NBA accreditation.

Accommodation facilities associated with government-run colleges are also proposed to be upgraded. Multistoried hostel complexes of 1000 capacity each at Rs 250 crore will be set up in Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru and Mysuru to encourage higher education among schedule caste, schedule tribe, backward, minority under new “Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Sauharda Vidhyarthi Nilaya” scheme.

 To encourage teachers, the state will, in the name of Smt Savithribai Phule, Indian social reformer, educationalist regarded as a symbol of courage for women, “Adarsh Shikshaka/Shikshaki” annual award will be instituted.
 
Other important announcements

1. Schools with basic infrastructure facilities Hoblis will be upgraded as “Model Schools” for quality improvement.
2. A grant of Rs 100 crore will be allocated to provide furniture to the Government high schools and pre-university colleges.
3. Select government high schools to be upgraded as PU colleges. 
4. Digital libraries will be established across the State.
5. Laboratory will be provided to the already existing university in Raichur at a cost of Rs.15 crore.
6. 20 selected schools will be developed as ‘Bengaluru Public Schools’ at Rs .89 crore
