Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that he would take action regarding the allegations pertaining to textbook revisions based on a report he has sought from the education minister.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event in Mangaluru, Bommai said on Tuesday that he has asked primary and secondary education minister, B C Nagesh to submit a detailed report on the allegations pertaining to textbook revisions and the revision committee chairperson Rohit Chakratirtha by Wednesday.
Over the past week, authors, seers, and social activists have approached the government, submitted resignations to official posts, staged protests, and also written open letters criticizing the appointment of Chakratirtha.
One such complaint was from Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer. Bommai said that Nagesh had met with the seer and offered an explanation to him regarding the revision.
It may be recollected that the Karnataka government has been questioned over the appointment of Chakratirtha over his extreme right speeches and derogatory remarks against Jnanapeetha awardee Kuvempu.
In a video from 2017 that has resurfaced, Chakatirtha has spoken derogatorily about Kuvempu, the community he hails from and the state anthem. This did not go well with a large section of people who have now questioned his appointment and eligibility to head the committee.
