The Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) have written to BC Nagesh, minister for school education and literacy asking him to crack a whip on private tutorials that have been functioning without permission.
In a letter addressed to the minister, the association has asked for better emphasis on safety of children in such centres.
This comes in the wake of a recent incident that was reported from Malavalli town of Mandya district. A 10-year-old girl from the town was allegedly raped and murdered by a private tutor, Kantahraj (51) who was the victim’s private tutor for three years. The girl’s body was found in a water sump.
The association also said that it was questionable whether all coaching centres, schools and colleges that are recognized by the education department are following all child safety guidelines.
“There are hundreds of private tutorial centres and home tutorials operational in the city. These supplement the educational needs of several students from pre-primary to colleges. None of them are following any child safety protocols,” the letter read.
KAMS said that despite repeated requests to the department to investigate the issue and regulate the tutorials for several years now, no action has been taken.
