Karnataka may implement National Education Policy (NEP) by August 20

Karnataka might implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by August 20. At a meeting with education department officials and experts on Friday, primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar said he has set a 15-day goal to implement the Karnataka Education Policy, which will be a mix of NEP and policies that match the state’s requirements.

Kumar also thanked former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan, who chaired the National Committee on Draft NEP, on behalf of the Karnataka government. Kasturirangan said NEP will help the country develop rapidly over the years. “Though Kerala is my homeland, Karnataka is my state,” he said, adding that Karnataka is already in the forefront of academia.

“Most of the things already implemented in Karnataka are part of NEP, and the state’s contribution in the new policy is immense,” Kasturirangan added.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra school education department initiated discussions on the NEP with a view to form an action plan in the next few months. Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad held a review meeting with officials of the department on Thursday, July 30.

Gaikwad told Indian Express, “A presentation on the policy was presented. We discussed aspects of the policy in comparison to the present situation. We also discussed questions raised in the past. I have sought a report from the department officers regarding challenges in implementing the policy and inter-departmental tasks that will need to be looked at.”
