Deputy chief minister and higher education minister, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan has asked all the Vice-Chancellors of the universities to ensure vaccination of all students above 18 years, in an expeditious manner within a week now.

On Thursday, following a virtual meet with Vice Chancellors, he said that as per the schedule of the vaccine drive, college students are to be vaccinated by July 7. He added that Vice Chancellors should take onus and try to ensure vaccination of all students by the said date and if need be, take an extension of 3 days.

“Students are being vaccinated as a priority group to facilitate the opening of physical classes of higher education classes. The date of opening of offline classes depends on the success of this vaccination drive and the government is ready to extend all cooperation in this regard,” he told.

Dr CN Ashwath Narayan also instructed the VCs to work towards the implementation of national educational policy.

It maybe recollected that chief minister B S Yediyurappa, following consultation with the government-appointed committee on Covid 19 headed by renowned cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty, announced that colleges can be opened in a phased manner.

While not stating anything about reopening of physical classes in schools, he said that the government would work at reopening in-person classes for students above 18 in a phased manner in the months to come.
