Karnataka postpones pre university practical exams

The Karnataka government has deferred the practical examinations for students of second year pre-university classes which were scheduled to be held across the state from April 28 following several requests from students, teachers and parents.

The postponed practical examinations will be conducted soon after completion of the theory examinations, according to an official statement. The theory examinations are scheduled from May 24 to June 16. The dates of the postponed practical examinations are yet to be announced.

According to the statement the decision has been taken in view of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in the state. The government had received requests from a large number of students, parents and teachers to postpone the examinations.

“Considering the requests from parents, teachers and students to postpone the exams in the wake of the spike in the Covid-19 cases across the state … colleges have been directed to conduct practical exams after the completion of theory examinations,” the statement said.

The government had earlier announced that the practical examinations would be held in the individual colleges. Students would not have to go to other institutions to take the tests.

The state government has declared a two-week lockdown in Karnataka starting from 9 pm from Tuesday. The decision was taken a day after Karnataka registered 34,804 new cases, with 20,733 in Bengaluru.
