Karnataka: Student falls to death in Bengaluru, reasons unknown

A pre-university student in Bengaluru reportedly fell to her death from the terrace of an 11-floor apartment complex in the City on Sunday evening.

The incident took place at a multistorey building at Chalukya Circle on Sunday evening. Police suspect that she took the plunge.

The 18-year-old girl has been identified as Prakruti A, a resident of Sanjaynagar and II PU student of a private college in Bengaluru.

The reason for death is still unknown although police suspect that she could have committed suicide.

The police suspect that she went to the terrace around 6.30pm and fell on a parked car before rolling on to the ground. She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Residents then alerted the police. High Grounds police rushed to the spot and found her body between two parked cars.

No ID card was recovered from the spot. However, with the help of her broken mobile, the police accessed the contacts of her parents and informed them.

Her father Aravind Kaushik, a software engineer, and mother Teju Kaushik were rushed to the spot and identified her.

Police said that the student was wandering around Chalukya Circle in the evening hours.  At first, she tried to enter the premises of an apartment complex but was stopped by the security personnel.

She went to an adjacent apartment complex later, entered it on the pretext of visiting her friend on the fourth floor and went to the terrace instead where she took the extreme step.
