A 34-year-old man has been arrested for lifting an eight-year-old girl and violently flinging her to the ground in Kerala.
The man, identified as her neighbour Aboobacker Siddique, has been arrested by the police while the girl is being treated for injuries.
The CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media, where one of the users posted the video clip. The short clip has the man picking up the young girl clad in hijab and thrashing her down flat on the ground.
The incident allegedly took place outside a madrasa. He is seen picking her up, flinging her to the ground and walking away. The girl, apparently landed on her stomach only to gather herself seconds later and head in the same direction as the assaulter.
Media reports indicate that the incident took place outside the Isha-athul Uloom Kendra, a Madrasa in Manjeshwar of Kasargod November 17. The girl is undergoing treatment for her injuries.
The police investigating the incident are yet to ascertain the reason behind the act. Sources said that the girl’s father has moved to a middle eastern country while her mother was not aware of the incident till she returned home crying.
An FIR has been registered against Aboobacker. The police said that he was booked under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 9 read with 10 of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act (aggravated sexual assault).
“We don’t know why he attacked the girl yet. He is still being questioned,” the police said. In a similar incident, two weeks ago, a six-year-old boy was kicked by a youth named Shihshad in Thalassery of Kannur for leaning on his parked car.
