KIIT hosts its 6th alumni meet in Bengaluru

Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Training (KIIT) – a deemed university – hosted its 6th alumni meet at Novatel Hotel, Bengaluru on Sunday, October 4. It turned out to be a special day with 300 people celebrating ‘home coming’ as they got a chance to recreate campus ambience by meeting up old friends and reminiscing college years. With this, KIIT has now joined the league of IITs and IIMs to have a pan-India alumni network. Most of the students who had successfully passed out of KIIT recently had turned up for the alumni meet as successful entrepreneurs. The alumni meet was not just sharing old memories but also looking at how the Kalinga campus had empowered them to stand on their feet and create a name for themselves in Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley of India.
The highlight of the alumni meet was a number of ex-students deliberating on the start-up eco system in Bengaluru and how they had ventured in newer areas as start-up CEOs. For example, one of the alumni had started a start-up (cabdekho.com) which focused on helping users find nearest and cheapest cabs. Currently serving in 38 cities and rapidly expanding reach. Another alumnus had started ‘Dream diaries’ where in one doesn’t necessarily have to pose and smile for the camera all the while. Instead, the app can capture one’s best moments in the wedding when one barely notices and are totally unaware of the candid shots being clicked. From smiles to tears; hugs to stolen glances and the joyful ambiences, all the cherished moments that make one’s wedding unforgettable and enjoyable by everyone, the start-up makes sure that one don’t miss even a glimpse of any.

Taking time out of his busy schedule, KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta had specially flown from Bhubaneswar to be amidst his student crowd. He said he has been travelling across the country meeting his alumni and feels thrilled as to how the students passing out of Bhubaneswar campus were making it big not only in India but also overseas. He said that KIIT was always behind the alumni network and would support all its ventures. His motivational speech inspired one and all. The students thanked Samanta for organising the alumni meet in such a grand manner as it helped them to connect old friends. “Though we all stay in Bengaluru, we hardly get time to meet each other. In fact, KIIT alumni meet has become a yearly ritual for all of us to see faces at least once in a year. I thank KIIT for their support,” said an alumni. Samanta said alumni meets were all about going back to the circle of absolute comfort, where the shadow of growing older falls away from one’s countenance.

The alumni meet was sort of time machine for the students as they felt teleported to their college days. The innovative games like-‘Bring Back Nostalgia’ had the audience at the edge of their seat. The students had to recall their memory when they were asked what was the motive to attend a fresher party for juniors or what should be the entry time for girls’ hostels. To pep up the show, there were other innovative shows like know your college and Samanta quiz.

Samanta also said that KIIT had also taken a giant leap by offering a dedicated course in Internet of Things. KIIT is one of the first varsities in the country to offer such a course.
