Overview

Loyola Public School, Guntur is a coeducational day cum residential school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi and is managed and administered by the members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). The school was founded with 13 boys on July 13, 1964; in 2002-03 the school became a co-educational institution.

The school’s mission is to train its students in the finest tradition of Jesuit education which acknowledges God as the author of all reality, all truth and knowledge. The motto of the School is "Natus Ad Majora" which means "born for greater things".

Campus

Sited in the village of Nallapadu, Guntur, the school campus occupies an area of 81 acres hosting a well furnished library and reading room, separate and well equipped labs for physics, chemistry and biology with a capacity to accommodate 50 students. The school started computer education as early as 1989 and the well-equipped computer laboratory is used by students from class III onwards. There is also a dispensary in the school and a qualified nurse to attend to the boarders’ medical needs.

Sports facilities include three huge play grounds for sports such as hockey, cricket, basketball, football, volley ball, badminton, table tennis and lawn tennis. The school also has a skating rink and a gymnasium for senior boys.

Academics

The school offers CISCE curriculum and the medium of instruction is English. Besides English, Telugu and Hindi are also taught in the school. The subjects taught in classes I to V are English, Telugu/Hindi, mathematics, general science, social studies, general knowledge, computer science (classes III-V), environmental science (classes IV and V), moral science/catechism, dance, physical education, games and drawing/art.

Subjects for classes VI to X are English, Telugu/Hindi, mathematics, general science (physics, chemistry, and biology), social studies (history/geography), computer science, environmental science, general knowledge, moral science/ catechism, dance, physical education and games.

Admission

The school admits students from class I onwards. Girls are admitted as only day scholars for classes I to X, while boys can choose to be either day scholars or boarders. Admissions to classes above class I are subject to vacancy and are granted after conducting an entrance test in March.

Achievement

Loyola Public School is regarded as the most reputed institution in Guntur; the school achieves 100 percent pass results in the ICSE class X exams year after year. In the 2014 board exams, the school achieved 100 percent pass results with 75 percent distinctions, 65 percent first class and 50 percent second class.

Accommodation

The school hostel hosts separate dormitories for junior (class I to V) and senior (class IV to X) students. The recreation facilities at the hostel include music, TV, video shows, readings and indoor games, boys are also given daily physical exercise in the morning and outdoor games after school hours. The school hostel also houses a swimming pool.

The hostel canteen serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.
