Lovely Professional University (LPU) has made history by becoming one of the first Indian universities to rank in the Top 50 globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025. LPU secured 48th position worldwide, marking a major milestone for Indian higher education.
The rankings assess universities’ contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). LPU earned an overall score of 92.6, a sharp rise from last year’s 86.2, and jumped from the 101–200 band in 2024 to the Top 50 this year.
LPU outperformed renowned institutions including MIT, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Guwahati, and IIM Indore. It also retained its 2nd position in India among all public and private universities for the second consecutive year.
In individual SDG categories, LPU ranked:

5th globally for Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)

6th for Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)

8th for Zero Hunger (SDG 2)

16th for Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6)

18th for Quality Education (SDG 4)
LPU also ranked 1st in India across six SDGs, including Decent Work and Economic Growth and Partnerships for the Goals.
Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, LPU founder chancellor, said the achievement reflects the university’s strong commitment to global standards, innovation, and sustainable impact.
This achievement positions LPU as a global leader in impact-driven education and sets a new standard for universities in India.
