A major obstacle in the education of girls in rural India is the long distance travel involved. Bicycles donated by RBL Bank will make it easier for the students to attend school, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said at an event hosted recently in Nagpur to distribute 100 bicycles and educational materials to underprivileged girl students.
MLA Sandeep Joshi, Balakrishnan Natarajan, Head – CSR, Anshul Chandak, Head – Treasury, Rohit Agrawal, Head – FIGU and senior bank officials graced the event where the chief minister lauded RBL for “fulfilling its social responsibility by addressing the educational problems of needy and disadvantaged students.”
Anshul Chandak said 4,800 bicycles were distributed last year across India including the Naxalite communist insurgency affected region of Gadchiroli. He said that 1800 bicycles will be donated later this year in various cities and towns.
The chief minister also inaugurated an eye camp and launched a mobile health care van for 1200 blue collar workers under the Bank’s CSR initiatives UMEED and Dhanvantari.
