EducationWorld June 09 | EducationWorld
Edunxt — a new technology infused learning system developed by the Bangalore-based Manipal Education Group which promises to transform distributed (or distance) learning in India — was launched in Mumbai by Steve Ballmer, chief executive of the Seattle-based Microsoft Inc, on May 12. EduNxt will be accessible to Sikkim Manipal Universitys Distance Education (SMU-DE) students from the next academic year starting July 2009.EduNxt is truly transformational and has the potential to change higher education in India. It has the power to scale and provide highly affordable quality education to students even in far-flung areas of the country, thus achieving geographic inclusivity. We see this innovation providing significant impetus to the higher education enrolment percentages, employability and positively influencing the Indian economy, said Anand Sudarshan, chief executive of Manipal Education, speaking on the occasion. Manipal Education is partnering with Microsoft, BSNL and netbook OEM suppliers in this venture which will provide quality, affordable education coupled with computer access and connectivity, enabling an enriching personalised learning experience for all its students. The EduNxt distance learning platform is a great example of how information technology can extend the reach of great educational resources. We look forward to continuing to work with Manipal to expand educational opportunities in India, added Ballmer. Facebook Twitter LinkedIn WhatsApp
