The chief minister of Meghalaya asserted the state government’s priority will be to improve the education standards in the state. The chief minister also added that the government is all committed to providing quality infrastructure facilities to their students in the near future.
The chief minister Conrad K Sangma, was inaugurating a newly-constructed building of Nongstoin College. The Rashtriya Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) funded the construction of the building.
During the inauguration, he said “The education policy is an initiative to address the challenges as well as to enhance better infrastructure facilities. There are several constraints in the education sector. We have embarked on a mission to resolve the problems of the teachers, who are the backbone of our society. The state government in its endeavour will ensure equitable development of all regions and has decided to give special attention and thrust to districts that are lagging behind.”
The chief minister also lauded the college for its contribution in imparting higher education since its inception from 1978. An estimated 4.5 crore was sanctioned by RUSA and DoNER for construction of the building.
