Mepco Schlenk Engineering College (MSEC), Sivakasi is one of India’s reputed private engineering colleges started under self-financing scheme on October 17, 1984 by Mepco Schlenk Charities, a social welfare organisation of the Metal Powder Company (MEPCO) Limited, Thirumangalam and its German collaborator Schlenk. Initially affiliated with the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, MSEC is a co-educational institution affiliated with the Anna University, Chennai from 2001 offering seven undergraduate courses and ten postgraduate courses as well as doctoral level (MS by research and Ph.D) programmes under its 13 departments – Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education, Business Administration, Computer Applications, English, Biotechnology, Information Technology – all of which are approved by the New Delhi-based All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). It is a recognised Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in industrial safety. The MSEC has its very own Placement & Career Development Cell which organises internship for students, holds personality development training, arranges coaching for entrepreneurship and tests for higher studies in India and abroad such as GRE, GATE etc, organises faculty development programmes and aids recruitment of students in leading multinational companies. More than 50 companies visit the campus each year for recruitment including Wipro, CTS, Larson &Tubro, TVS Groups Companies, Alstom, TAFE, Inautix, HCL, L-Cube, Accenture, Essar, Mapal, and Infosys. Statistics show 100 percent placement of students.

Campus

Sprawling over 310 acres (with a built up area of 42,577 square meters for academics, 47, 898 square meters for residential buildings and 9,793 square meters of land under construction), the college is located on the Virudhunagar-Sivakasi state highway. It is 15 km south of Virudhunagar which is on the Chennai-Kanniyakumari railway route. The college can be reached from the nearest airportMadurai, within an hour’s travel by road. Infrastructure facilities to the tune of Rs.70 crore enhance the academic environment of the college. State-of-the-art facilities available at the campus include seven air conditioned seminar halls varying in their capacities from 150 to 1500 seats equipped withaudio-visual equipments and spacious conference rooms. Apart from the regular science laboratories, the institute also hosts a virtual reality lab, language lab and mathematics lab. Extraordinary sporting facilities with an indoor stadium and gymnasium aid extra-curricular activities. All the buildings of the college are wi-fi enabled. Other students services available on campus are banks, ATM, Post office, health services. MSEC library is housed in a two storeyed separate building covering an area of 25,000 sq. ft. All the reading rooms have been air-conditioned to provide a congenial atmosphere. The library boasts 43,000 books, subscription to 291 periodicals including 103 international journals, audio-visual aids, online public access catalogue and functional digital resource centre with 9,500 online documents. The library is equipped with Virtual Interactive class room video conferencing facility for the kn-band - EDU-SAT programme. Transportation is available for students and faculty members.

General Information

Admission

Admission to the undergraduate (B.E./B.tech) degree programmes at MSEC, Sivakasi is based on performance in the Common Entrance Test conducted by the state of Tamil Nadu and the All India Engineering Entrance Examination. Students qualifying the higher secondary school examination of Tamil Nadu or its equivalent with 60 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics are eligible to take these tests (SC/ST/OBC students need to score just the pass marks). For all the Masters programmes, admission is on the basis of a written test conducted by the institute. Achievement

Mepco Schlenk Engineering College (MSEC), Sivakasi has been selected by Education Consultants India Ltd., New Delhi along with 10 other institutions in the country for overseas projects in technical education. It has been conferred the prestigious Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan National Award by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) for the Best Overall Performance among engineering colleges in the year 1998 and 2005. Leading publications such as Data Quest, Competition Success Review, Outlook, The Week, India Today have ranked MSEC among the top 50 private engineering colleges of India.
