Misleading rankings

I disagree with your logic for ranking private higher education institutions in India separately and exclusively (EW Private Higher Education Rankings 2016, EW May). Your league tables provide a one-sided and biased view of Indian higher education. India hosts several public universities and colleges which offer high quality education at affordable price. Many of the private colleges and universities you have ranked charge exorbitant fees and are out of reach for poor students. Moreover, your rankings convey the erroneous impression that India’s best universities and colleges are in the private sector. This is completely wrong. The top-ranked institutions in India are in the public sector — Delhi and Panjab universities, the IITs and IIMs, among others — which routinely feature in the rankings of Times Higher Education and QS. Yes, I agree they have tough admission cut-offs, but that cannot be a reason for their exclusion. Please revert to ranking all universities/colleges inter se in the interest of providing accurate information to students and parents. Amrish Pandey Delhi Severe displeasure We would like to express our severe displeasure with the ranking given in the EW India Top 100 Private Engineering Colleges Rankings (EW May) to RajaRajeswari College of Engineering, Bangalore. RajaRajeswari is an NBA accredited college, which is quite a phenomenal feat for any engineering institution to achieve. Whether it’s faculty, infrastructure, accreditation, live projects, library, placements, we offer the best of everything. We fail to understand the parameters on which the rankings are given, as colleges which have not been accredited by NBA are ranked above us. You should be aware that NBA accreditation is the supreme quality certification for any engineering college. We believe the agency which has conducted the survey has not taken this into consideration. We urge you to take timely corrective action to resolve our grievances. If not, we would be seriously disappointed and will henceforth reconsider our participation in such surveys. Dr. Balakrishna R. We have not furnished any data to the field research personnel for the rankings. Please let us know the source from which the data has been compiled/collected as there are many aberrations.
