MP: Five minors students sodomize junior at government boarding school

September 3, 2024
A Class 8 student at a government-run school in Narmadapuram district, Madhya Pradesh, has reportedly been sodomized multiple times by five senior students, according to police on Tuesday. The victim alleges that the abuse occurred over nearly two years, starting shortly after he joined the school in July 2022. The abuse allegedly took place in the school’s hostel. The student and a family member filed a complaint on Monday, detailing that the most recent incident occurred in December 2023. The five accused, all minors, are now facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 377 (unnatural sex), 294 (obscene acts), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation), as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to Dehat (rural) police station in-charge Praveen Chouhan, the student’s father had initially reported the abuse to the school principal, but no action was taken. This inaction led the family to seek police intervention. Further legal proceedings will be based on the facts emerging from the ongoing investigation. The case highlights serious concerns about student safety and institutional response in the educational environment.
