NIT Rourkela is one of the premier institutions for technical education in the country funded by the Government of India. Promoted in 1961, it was initially know as Regional Engineering College, Rourkela. Eventually, the Government of India recognized it as a ‘Deemed University’ under the name of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.
The objective of NIT is to produce quality engineers and scientists at graduate and postgraduate levels in various branches of Engineering and Science. The institute is managed by the Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology Society and has been modernized by two foreign collaborative funding agencies.
NIT Rourkela was ranked No.19 among top engineering colleges in India by Outlook survey conducted in 2012 and was ranked No.15 in the DataQuest-CMR T-Schools Survey 2012. The institute boasts a good placement track record with many big names in the industry visiting its campus every year with lucrative offers.
