The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is a highly esteemed institution committed to undergraduate and graduate legal education in India. One of the most prestigious law schools in India, NLSIU is situated in Bangalore, and was founded by a statute passed by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Karnataka. It was officially founded on August 29, 1987and presently the school's chief administrator is R. Venkata Rao, the vice-chancellor. The undergraduate programs at NLSIU took off on July 1, 1988, and NLSIU conducted classes at the premises of the Central College of Bangalore University until November 1991. The school later shifted formally to the Nagarbhavi suburb of Bangalore, its present home. NLSIU has about 500 students, about 400 in the undergraduate program and 100 in postgraduate program. NLSIU boasts an esteemed list of recruiters which include Bajaj Allianz, Fox Mandal Little & Co., Edelweiss Corporate, DLF Limited, Clifford Chance, Faculty of Law, Delhi University, KPMG LLP, and IBM among others.
