NEET admit card delayed, exam could be postponed

The admit card for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 which was expected to be available at cbseneet.nic.in from April 15, 2017 (Saturday) has been delayed by a week. According to a recent notification released on NEET 2017 website, the delay is due to the court’s order to accept NEET applications of candidates above 25 years of age till April 5 (midnight).

Admit Cards will now be hosted on April 22, 2017 (Saturday) on the official website cbseneet.nic.in. Also, the date of examination of NEET as a single stage objective type test scheduled for May 7, 2017 might get postponed owing to a petition filed in Supreme Court by Sankalp Charitable trust.

The petition claims shortage of time period for preparation as the primary reason to file the petition. According to the reports, a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the extension of the examination date. Supreme Court will hear the plea on April 18, 2017 and will finalise the date of exam. The plea filed by the trust, asked for the extension keeping in view of various reasons which includes:

·     Short interval between the board exams and the NEET.

“There are only 10-15 days for preparation for the students because of the closeness of the board exams and the common medical entrance exam. Last year, the interval was two months for the preparation which makes the students prepare well with proper revision,” said an official spokesperson of the trust.

No more exam except NEET
In the previous years, students had various medical entrance exams to choose from, but, after NEET, they are left with only one exam at the national level which if they fail, they risk losing an entire academic year.

NEET is held for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in India in medical/dental colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be releasing the NEET Admit Card 2017 on April 22, 2017 (Saturday). Students, who have registered for the exam, can download it at the official web portal at “cbseneet.nic.in”. The test which will be held for granting admission to MBBS/ BDS courses (for the session 2017-2018) will be conducted nationwide on May 7, 2017 at 104 exam cities, which might change after the Supreme Court hear the plea on April 18, 2017.
