NEET-UG 2025: Key Highlights and Analysis

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2025 was held in the morning hours all over India and at some international centers on May 4, 2025. This vital test is to get admission to undergraduate medicine courses, including MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing. Approximately 22.7 lakh candidates appeared for the test in about 5,400 centers throughout the country. It was a single-shift exam held from 2 PM to 5 PM IST.

Exam Structure and Pattern

The NEET-UG 2025 paper consisted of 180 questions, with 45 questions each from Physics and Chemistry and 90 questions from Biology (Botany and Zoology). Its total marks were 720. Each right answer carries four marks, and one mark shall be deducted for each wrong answer. There was no negative marking for unattempted questions. The exam was conducted in 13 languages, including English and Hindi. Regional languages were also on the list.

Security and Conduct of the Exam

Strict security measures were put into place to ensure that the exam was conducted fairly and without any technical glitches. Mock drills to check the preparedness of the mobile signal jammers and biometric authentication were conducted at all test centers. Authorities ensured that adequate manpower was present for frisking and imposed multilayered frisking by district police and designated security staff. Exam Analysis and Difficulty Level

The exam generally demanded student feedback and expert analysis of moderate to hard; however, it is my humble opinion that candidates had a difficult time.

  • Physics: Considered to be the most difficult section, many questions require a deep understanding of concepts, analytical thinking, and heavy calculations. Some questions can be compared to the level of JEE Advanced.
  • Chemistry: Chemistry was lengthy and moderately difficult, with questions that demanded accuracy and careful reading. There was more emphasis on organic and physical chemistry.
  • Biology: The Biology section was considered doable but lengthy. Questions were basically from the NCERT syllabus, testing the conceptual understanding and application.

Post Exam Information 

It is expected that NTA shall release the official answer key and then announce the results. The tentative date for the results is June 14, 2025. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) shall announce the counseling schedule for All India Quota seats, while respective states will announce the schedule for state counseling.
