NIRF rankings 2022, IIT Madras tops the list

IIT Madras alumni launches ‘AskIITM’ website for IIT Aspirants

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has topped the list in the ‘overall’ category of the National Institute of Rankings Framework (NIRD) awarded by the ministry of education on Friday.

The seventh edition of the rankings also holds Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science in the second position in the overall; category. This premier institute has also been ranked #1 in the ‘research’ and ‘universities’ categories.

The country’s institutes have been ranked in 11 categories. IIT Madras is ranked #1 in ‘Engineering’ while Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad has secured the top rank in the ‘Management’ category. Jamia Hamdard has been ranked #1 in the pharmacy category.

Among the dental colleges, Chennai-based Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences has secured the top rank and All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been ranked #1 in the medical category. The Bengaluru’s National Law School University of India is the top law school in the country as per NIRF.

Speaking at the event, union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that universities of tomorrow must be able to meet the aspirations of children today. “The current industrial revolution 4.0 will not be propelled by machines but by intelligence and knowledge-based innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Along these lines, India is a leader in digital transactions amounting to a large number of transactions world over. Previously, even getting a passport was like summiting the Himalayas. Now within 40 seconds of being vaccinated, a certificate is received on the beneficiary’s phone. Corporate law has taken precedence over criminal law. One must think, Why do IIT’s management schools do well? Today’s market demand is that engineering technocrats must have managerial abilities. This is what NEP is moving towards,” he said.
