No decision on cancellation of SSLC exams: Karnataka education minister

The minister for primary and secondary education, Karnataka, S Suresh Kumar has clarified that no decision has been taken about the postponement or cancellation of the state board exam — Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) – for class X students.

He has urged parents and school managements not to pay heed to rumours in a press statement issued on Tuesday. The SSLC exams conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examinations Board are scheduled to be held between June 21 to July 5.

The press release comes in the wake of the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) announcing cancellation of its class X CBSE exams with students assessed on an objective criterion decided by the board. Moreover CBSE has postponed class XII exams that were scheduled between May 4 and June 14. It will set a new date set after the situation is reviewed on June 1.

Since this CBSE announcement rumours are rife about the postponement and cancellation of board exams for class X (SSLC) in Karnataka.

Suresh Kumar has denied these rumours and said that a decision will be taken in the days to come depending on how the Covid pandemic pans out and the number of cases the state reports. “Our exams will take place only from June 21. So, we are yet to take a decision regarding this,” said Suresh Kumar.
