A 30-year-old school van driver was arrested for allegedly raping a nursery student in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district, a senior police officer reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the Mango area of the city on Friday. The accused, Jaishree Tiwary, a resident of Daiguttu under Mango police station, was arrested within three hours after the victim’s mother filed an FIR on Saturday, said Superintendent of Police (City & Rural) Rishava Garg during a press conference.
The SP stated that a medical examination of the three-and-a-half-year-old victim was conducted, and the accused driver was placed in judicial custody on Sunday.
The victim, upon returning home from school on Friday, complained of stomach pain and revealed the assault by the school driver.
Upon receiving the report, Senior Superintendent Kishore Kaushal formed a special police team and directed them to arrest the culprit under the provisions of the Pocso Act, according to the SP.
A female police officer was dispatched to the victim’s home to gather details before the driver’s arrest.
The school van has been impounded, and the police, taking the incident seriously, have assured the victim’s family that the chargesheet will be filed within a week.
