OET strengthens ties with Indian institutions to boost English skills for healthcare professionals

September 18, 2024

OET, a global leader in English language testing specifically for healthcare professionals, has announced new partnerships with key Indian government organisations and educational institutions. These collaborations are part of a larger effort to enhance the English proficiency of healthcare workers in India, ensuring they are better equipped for success both within the country and internationally.

The OET Test is a specialised English language test designed to assess the communication skills of healthcare professionals. Unlike general English exams, the OET Test focuses on real-life medical scenarios and patient interactions, making it highly relevant to healthcare professionals. The test covers essential language skills, such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking, all tailored to healthcare settings. This ensures that test-takers not only improve their English but are also better prepared for the challenges of their jobs in English-speaking environments.

Recognised by global nursing registration bodies, such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), the Nursing Council of New Zealand, and the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), OET continues to set the standard for English proficiency in healthcare, with growing global recognition of its role in fostering effective communication in clinical settings.

OET has announced new partnerships with several prominent institutions in India, including the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), the Kerala Government’s Department of Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) and Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) and Santosh University.

Through these partnerships, English preparation for the OET Test is being integrated into existing training and development programs, giving Indian healthcare workers increased access to world-class English language education. This integration aims to equip healthcare professionals with the skills necessary to communicate effectively in English-speaking environments, helping them meet international standards of care, providing new opportunities for career advancement, and bolstering domestic healthcare systems.

“We are excited to partner with such respected institutions and government bodies,” said Amit Upadhyay, OET’s Senior Regional Manager South Asia. “These collaborations underscore our mission to empower healthcare professionals with the language skills needed to thrive globally. Together, we’re creating new paths for career growth and enhanced patient care.”

By prioritising English proficiency, OET and its partners are helping to shape a more capable healthcare workforce in India, equipped to meet the challenges of an increasingly globalised healthcare landscape.

Upadhyay added, “At OET, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change. These partnerships are about more than just preparing healthcare professionals for an English test—they’re about making a real difference in their lives and for the communities they serve. We’re excited to see the positive impact these collaborations will bring, and we look forward to continuing our work to support India’s healthcare sector.”
