Outstanding Achievement in Education Leadership Award 2018 – Pramod Sharma

Currently vice president of the Genesis Global School, Noida and hitherto the Founding-Principal and Director of this globally benchmarked CBSE, CAIE and IB-affiliated international school ranked #4 in EducationWorld’s national league table of international day-cum-boarding schools, Pramod Sharma is one of India’s most experienced and respected school leaders who has played a major role in nurturing several of India’s celebrated private boarding schools to global standards.

An alumnus of the College of Education, Ajmer and Gorakhpur University, Sharma began his career as a chemistry teacher in the top-ranked The Doon School, Dehradun in 1972 where he served for four years. In 1976, he accepted an offer to teach in the Indian School, Kabul, Afghanistan (1976-79). After a second short stint in the Doon School, in 1981 he went abroad again and taught at the Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Nigeria (1981-85). In 1985, he was invited to teach at the blue-chip Mayo College, Ajmer (1985-89) following which he was appointed Principal of the Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok, Sikkim’s #1 co-ed day-cum-boarding school (1989-96). After a short stint as Principal of the Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, Punjab, in 1996 he was recalled to Mayo College as Principal where he served for over a decade (1996-2009).

In 2009, Sharma was hand-picked and selected by UP-based business tycoon the late Sardar Ponty Chaddha, to conceptualise, build and establish the Genesis Global School, Noida as a top-ranked, globally comparable international school with an unprecedented budget of over Rs.200 crore. True to his brief, Sharma established Genesis Global School, constructed on a 30-acre green campus in Noida, into one of India’s top-ranked international day-cum-boarding schools with an enrolment of 1,400 boys and girls, including 260 foreign students, mentored by 180 teachers.

“Private schools have greatly impacted post-independence India’s economic development and society. In particular, the drive to build the IT revolution and new industries of post-liberalised India has been led by students who received their foundational education in the country’s best private schools which have inspired promotion of the government-owned Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas providing millions of children the inspiration and environments to dream big and fulfil their dreams. Looking back I am satisfied with the role I’ve played in developing and nurturing some of India’s best private schools,” says Sharma.

In recognition of this extraordinary contribution to the growth and development of several top-ranked schools in India and developing countries of the third world, the Board of Directors and Editors of EducationWorld are privileged to present Pramod Sharma the EW Outstanding Achievement in Education Leadership Award 2018 and induct him into the EW Hall of Fame of Indian Education.
