Overview

Periyar University is a Public University founded in September 1997 through a special Periyar University Act 1997. Periyar University covers the area comprising four districts namely Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. Periyar University is one of the most prestigious institutions in the state and in the country.

Periyar University obtained 12(B) and 2(f) status from the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. It has been ranked 83 in the NIRF ranking of Universities and ARIIA 4 rank during 2020.

Campus

The Periyar University library features 78,260 volumes of text and reference books on various disciplines and various sections such as Reference Section, Text book Section, Books for competitive Examinations, Theses Dissertations Section, Back Volumes Section, Reprographic Section, and Question Banks.

The library subscribes to 180 national and 8 international journals, 118 online journals and 13 leading newspapers.

Admission

Eligibility for MA, MPhil, PhD (Economics)

A candidate who has passed B.A. Economics or Cooperation or BCom.,or BBM or BBA or B.Sc, Mathematics or Statistics Degree examinations of Periyar University or any other University accepted by the syndicate as equivalent thereto shall be permitted to appear and qualify for M A Economics.

For MPhil, candidate should have passed M.A. Economics with 55 percent marks.

For PhD, candidate should have passed M.A./M.Phil Economics with 55 percent marks.

Eligibility for MCA

A pass in a recognised Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration with 10+2+3 pattern in B.C.A. B.Sc. (Information Technology/Computer Science) with Mathematics as a course at 10+2 level and obtained at least 50 percent (45 percent in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examinations.

Eligibility for MSc (Computer science)

Candidates who have qualified for their Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Technology/Software Engineering/Software Science/BCA under the 10+2+3 system of this university or equivalent degree.
