In a response to the social media update by the MHRD about the second review meeting with education officials, students say that the minister should postpone the JEE and NEET entrance exams if he cared about their safety at all. Amidst the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, students request the union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ not to risk their health and lives and postpone the exams.
The minister had conducted a review meeting with education officials that included secretaries of School Education And Literacy Department, Higher Education Department; and chairpersons of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and the director general of the National Testing Agency (NTA), on Thursday. Pokhriyal said they discussed several issues related to education during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
MHRD holds review meeting to discuss NEET and JEE exams
The meeting was held amidst a growing clamour for further postponement of the pending CBSE Class 12 exams and entrance exams NEET and JEE Main. The exams have been scheduled for July. However, parents are anxious about the gathering of students in large numbers at the exam centres. Pokhriyal, however, said that his ministry is “committed to students’ health and quality education”. But, the students community do not seem to be convinced at all. A student tweeted, ‘we are not testing kit give a verdict as soon as possible as students are fed up of asking and tweeting’. (sic)
The pending CBSE exams have also become a cause for concern for parents and students. Parents have also started a social media campaign #CancelBoardExam, demanding cancellation of CBSE and other board exams. The Supreme Court has also asked the board to consider cancelling the pending exams scheduled to be held between July 1 and 15. Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia also said that conducting board exams under these circumstances will be ‘difficult’ and suggested the HRD minister to pass students on the basis of internal assessment scores.
