President Murmu teaches for a day, discusses global warming with children

President Droupadi Murmu, marking her two years in office, assumed the role of a teacher, engaging with students on global warming and its mitigation. During her session with Class 9 students of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya at the President’s Estate, she stressed the importance of water conservation and tree planting to combat climate change.

Expressing her eagerness to interact with the talented youth, she inquired about their ambitions and was pleased to hear many aspired to be scientists and doctors. She highlighted the pervasive issue of climate change, noting the rising temperatures and their impact on all living beings.

Murmu emphasized the need for water conservation, advocating for measures like rainwater harvesting and reducing water wastage. She also stressed the importance of planting trees and preserving forests to mitigate global warming.

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, she encouraged students to plant a tree on their birthdays. Concluding her session, she expressed confidence that the students’ awareness and efforts would contribute significantly to reducing global warming in the future.

President Murmu, born on June 20, 1958, in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, has a rich background of service, including her tenure as Jharkhand’s governor from 2015 to 2021. Known for her dedication to the marginalized and her interest in spirituality, she continues to champion democratic values and social empowerment.
