Puducherry: Classes to resume from Oct 8; half-days and lunch for students

The Puducherry government has decided to resume classes from October 8 for classes 9, 10, 11 and 12. However, the students will have half-day classes in schools on all six days a week until further notice. While students of class 9 and 11 will have classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, class 10 and 12 students will have it on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in a week. Due to the coronavirus pandemic situation and in order to maintain social distancing protocols, classes would be held from 10 am to 1 pm. 

While speaking to reporters, Director of Education, Rudra Goud said that attendance would not be compulsory and classes were meant for doubt clarification and guidance only. Students would be permitted to attend the classes only after showing a letter of consent of their parents. Although, there would be no transport facility for the students to reach the schools.

As per the latest guidelines by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 for reopening of schools, colleges and educational institutions after October 15, it stated, “For re-opening of schools and coaching institutions, State/ UT Governments have been given the flexibility to take a decision after 15th October 2020, in a graded manner. The decision shall be taken in consultation with the respective school/ institution management, based on their assessment of the situation.”
