Sacred Heart Matriculation Higher Secondary School sited at Churchpark in Chennai is an English medium day school for girls affiliated with the state board, established on September 9, 1909 by Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation Sisters who came to Chennai in 1842.
Initially, the school only allowed admissions to European children as it was functioning under the European Code as a middle school since 1910. However, from 1932 onwards Indian students started getting inducted in the school.
Sacred Heart attained affiliation to the Madras University in 1952 and became a private matriculation school. In the year 1954, the first batch of Sacred Heart Churchpark students appeared for the matriculation exams.
In 1980, Nano Nagle’s vision of education the less privileged sections of the society saw the light of day when the Sacred Heart Tamil Medium School was established within the Church Park campus for the under-privileged children; it now boasts student strength of 600.
Sacred Heart is sited at the Church Park area of Chennai amidst verdant surroundings, thereby offering a congenial environment for learning.
The school campus offers modern facilities such as chemistry, physics and biology labs equipped with high-tech apparatus and specimens to cater to senior classes, outdoor sports facilities including spacious basketball courts, a hockey field and throw ball courts, and a spacious library featuring a wide variety of books and a separate place for teachers, offering some quiet ‘reading’ time.

Alongside academics, the school places emphasis on value education and believes that education needs to inculcate necessary moral and cultural traits among individuals. The Parent teacher Association (PTA) holds an eminent place in the school and operates in tandem with the school management.
