Established in June 2004, Sarala Birla Academy is a boys boarding school affiliated with the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) board.
The school is a part of the Aditya Birla Group and has been constituted under a separate charitable trust. Over the years, Sarala Birla Academy has evolved into a nationally reputed educational institution routinely ranked among India’s top 5 boys boarding schools in the annual EducationWorld India School Rankings.
Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, is the chairman of the school’s governing council. His overarching vision for the school is “to ignite minds and to create in the students a love of learning and continuous development, by making the learning process an enjoyable experience and by doing so, help develop a higher sense of self-esteem in the student and endeavour to equip the student with life skills that will place him first among his equals, when he steps out into the real world.”
The 64 acre SBA campus hosts 33 spacious classrooms equipped with equipped ICT teaching-learning facilities and well equipped separate laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology. The school hosts two computer labs with 25 to 30 computers each. The library houses 20,000 volumes in printed and electronic version. It is well ventilated and enabled with wi-fi for various research needs of the students and teachers.
The academy provides world class facilities for sports such as cricket, football, tennis, badminton, hockey, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and squash. The school also hosts a gym and swimming pool for students to bring out their talents in various activities.
The school campus hosts a 19-bed hospital with basic medical facilities. A qualified resident doctor and nurses are on call 24 hours a day. The stylish dining hall can accommodate up to 650 to 700 people. The well qualified chefs come with work experience in premier hotels of the country.
Sarala Birla Academy is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, Cambridge Assessment International Examination (CAIE), UK and International Baccalaureate (IB), Geneva.
The school offers classes from grade V to XII. For grades IX and X, the students have a choice of the ICSE or the IGCSE curriculum. For grades XI and XII, the students have a choice of the ISC or the IBDP. The school maintains a teacher-student ratio of 1:10.
At Sarala Birla Academy, teacher training is an ongoing process. The teachers travel to various parts of the country and also abroad to stay abreast of the latest teaching methodologies and skill enrichment. The school is also a venue for teachers’ training programs and conferences for international courses such as the IB and the IGCSE.
Extracurricular: Besides academics, the school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities such as, trekking, white water rafting and wilderness camps. The school hosts a number of clubs depending on the area of interests of the students. The students travel around the world for participation at the Olympiads, MUNs, Round Square activities, exchange programmes and also educational trips. SportsThe school grants admissions for grades V, VI, VII, VIII, IX (ICSE and IGCSE), and XI (ISC and IBDP). The registration fee is Rs. 5000 and the form can be filled up online.
Candidates seeking admission in grades V to IX are required to write an entrance exam, followed by an interaction with the principal and other concerned authorities to complete the admission process.
The written test will examine the child’s knowledge, skills and proficiency in English and Mathematics.
For admission to grade XI (ISC and IBDP), the candidates are allotted dates of interview with the committee headed by the principal.
Prior to this, the candidates are required to submit transcripts and certificates obtained from the previous institutions. For successful candidates the admission granted is ‘provisional’ until they submit the certificate of completion and pass from the previous Examination Authority.
