Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya has built a strong culture of heritage sensitivity. Our students work towards the propagation and revival of heritage arts. The preservation of Indian heritage through the ‘Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Dharohar Festival’ is a testament to SKV’s vision to pass on the legacy of Indian heritage and cultural mores to its students and to prepare a generation that is gentle in demeanor, strong in values and modern in opinion. SKV Dharohar has generated pride and appreciation of India’s cultural diversity.
The Dharohar festival celebrated every year is themed on a different period of Indian history or history of Indian states. Girls schools from across India are invited to participate in this three-day fest which features competitions based on visual arts, culinary arts, dance, music, built heritage etc. of India’s various states/erstwhile dynasties. The winning school is awarded a prize of Rs.1 lakh and a running trophy.
Heritages of Mughal and Maratha dynasties and Kashmir, Sikkim and Odisha states were celebrated in the previous years.
This year, we spotlighted the heritage of Kerala: God’s Own Country. 150 students from 8 premier schools of the country participated in this heritage fest; the art and culture of Kerala took over the school for three days. The inauguration ceremony commenced with the auspicious Sringarimela followed by the Thiruvadhira dance and the glorious Theyyam.
Shri Suresh K Goel, former director general, Indian Council for Culture Relations and secretary minister of external affairs graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The next two days saw a spectacular display of culture, cuisine, dance, music and art of Kerala.
Ekanka Nrittam (solo classical dance), Nadodi Nrittam (folk dance), Nadanpattu (folk dance), Keertanam (semi classical song), Malapayachitrarachna (bamboo mat painting), Kollam (rangoli), Shilpavela (sculpture), Pachakam (cuisine), Sahityam (one person dramatics presentation), Chitrattayyalpani (embroidery), acrylic on canvas, cartooning and video-making competitions saw enthusiastic participation of the students. Moreover, a special Kalari Payattu workshop was organised for all the participants.
Last but not the least, the principals dinner had Kerala on the plate, the guests and participants were served “Sadya” which included thoran, aviyal, inchicurry, pachadi, Parippu, Meen curry, Meen Varuthatu, Kozhi curry, sambar, pulissery, rassam, Thoru, payasam and pappadam.
Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya was declared the overall winner of the of the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Dharohar Festival: Kerala Heritage.
Being the host school, the award money and the trophy went to the runner up school: Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls School, Jodhpur.
