Second dose trials of Covid vaccine for children to begin soon

Jammu & Kashmir: Over 12,000 students to be tested for Covid

The second dose of Bharat Biotech’s Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin for children aged 2-6 years, is most likely to be administered to those participating in the trials next week.

Trials for Covid-19 vaccine for children are underway in India ahead of an anticipated third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier, AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria said the vaccine for children could likely be available in September.

The trial is conducted by segregating children into categories according to their age, in which 175 children of each age group have been included. An interim report is expected by the end of August after the second dose of vaccine is completed. The report will further clarify how safe the vaccine is for children.

The Union government had earlier informed the Delhi High Court that clinical trials of Covid-19 vaccines for children under 18 years of age were on the verge of completion.

Trials for Indian pharmaceutical firm Zydus Cadila’s vaccine for children are also currently underway in India.
