Shri Ram Global School named South Asia’s most sustainable school

Shri Ram Global School, Greater Noida West, has been ranked No. 1 in Sustainable Education at the prestigious South Asia Conference of Cambridge Schools, lauded for its innovative approach to environmental consciousness and student-led sustainability initiatives.

At the heart of the school’s green vision is its flagship programme, Action for Sustainable Development (AFSD), aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This annual initiative invites schools across India and abroad to present original, scalable green innovations. These are evaluated by expert judges and angel investors on the criteria of originality, sustainability, and impact.

In 2023–24, a biodegradable sanitary napkin project by a student from a government school in West Bengal clinched the top prize. The 2024–25 edition showcased 14 forward-thinking projects, including:

  • Agrisense, a robot from Abu Dhabi that monitors and manages soil health using advanced sensors.

  • I for Impact, a DPS India initiative that fosters sustainability through a student-led eco-hub and self-sustaining revenue model.

  • A Solar Powered Desalination Unit by a school in Oman providing clean water to remote communities.

  • Terravigil, a solar-powered soil analyser from India, which earned first prize for enhancing sustainable farming.

    Key student-led projects

Beyond AFSD, Shri Ram Global integrates sustainability into everyday learning. Key student-led projects include:

  • Energy by Steps, where footsteps generate electricity through piezoelectric technology.
  • Eco Nibbler Worms, using bio-lab-bred superworms to digest non-degradable plastic waste.

  • Green Rooms, classrooms enriched with indoor plants that reduce indoor air pollution significantly.

The school also generates solar electricity across its 13,191 sq. ft rooftop and contributes surplus power back to the grid. Other ongoing eco-initiatives include rainwater harvesting, vermi-composting, waste segregation (including e-waste), and the creative reuse of materials for teaching and decor.

By turning its campus into a living lab for environmental solutions, Shri Ram Global School is not only nurturing future-ready innovators but also reaffirming that sustainability must be lived, not just learned.
