Overview

South Point School, Kolkata is a coeducational English medium day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The school was founded on April 1, 1954 by Shri Satikanta Guha and Smt. Prityalata Guha with just 20 students and few committed teachers. South Point School, Kolkata was the first co-educational school to be established in the city with affiliation to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The first class X batch passed out in 1958 and in 1960 the school was upgraded to higher secondary level.

South Point School has won itself a place in the Guinness Book of Records (1984-1992) as the world’s largest school with strength of nearly 13,500 students, 325 teaching staff and 225 non-teaching staff members. The school is managed by the South Point Education Society which is part of the M P Birla Group.

The school motto is Courage to Know – a tribute to all those who, in the face of blind prejudice, religious bigotry, social ostracism and even death, refused to give up their search for truth

Campus

The school houses a library featuring a collection of nearly 18,000 volumes, a computer lab, well-equipped and well-ventilated labs for physics, chemistry and biology, a medical infirmary, bookstore, an air-conditioned auditorium with seating capacity for 300 people, nursery playroom, cyber zone and a vast playground.

South Point boasts the latest software for smoother running of school affairs such as admission, examination and report cards, fee collection, transport and issuing caution money or transfer certificates.

Academics

South Point School offers schooling from nursery through the higher secondary level. After class V, students can opt for the Central Board of Secondary Education or West Bengal Board of Secondary Education curriculum. Besides academics, the school offers a wide range of co curricular and sports activities such as basketball, chess, cricket, darts, rock-climbing, table-tennis, quiz, karate and yoga.
