Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar, Chennai is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded in 1970, the school is named after His Holiness Sri Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar, Chennai boasts more than 2000 students and has been accredited as an ISO 9001:2008 institution in January 2008.
Sri Sankara School symbolises the ideals of education expressed in Vedic scriptures and literature and builds discipline and character among students, encourages appreciation of cultural heritage and cultivation of genuine devotion to God, respect to Guru, parents and elders. Sanskrit, the repository of Indian culture is given a special status in this school.
The school has smart class rooms, well-stocked libraries, an auditorium, a virtual lab, Mathematics laboratory with technological support from NIIT, well equipped science laboratories including an independent junior Science lab, English language lab, Geography lab and Computer labs for junior and senior students, well maintained restrooms on every floor and a gym.
The school offers CBSE curriculum. Subjects offered include Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Work Experience, Health and Physical Education and Value Education and Information Technology. The medium of education is English. In classes I-V, students have Tamil as their second language and Hindi as the third language. Classes VI and VII students have a choice between Hindi/Sanskrit as third language. Classes VIII-X students can choose Tamil/Hindi/Sanskrit as second language and Hindi/Sanskrit as third language . To promote Computer Education training, the school offers Computer Awareness courses as part of the curriculum from class III onwards. For classes XI-XII, the core language is English and the subjects offered are grouped into the following categories:
Group 1- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science / Informatics Practices.
Group 2- Mathematics / Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-Technology / Economics and Applied Mathematics or Geography.
Group 3- Mathematics / Applied Mathematics / Geography / Informatics Practices, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Entrepreneurship / Legal Studies / Marketing (offered as an additional subject).
Group 4- Mathematics / Applied Mathematics / Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Economics and Entrepreneurship / Legal Studies / Marketing (offered as an additional subject).
The school conducts several programmes in collaboration with Rotary International, the British Council, Indian school debating society, INTACH and The Energy and Resources Institute. Besides these, the school promotes NCC girls’ wing, the Young Indian Net, the Model United Nations programmes and the Mock-parliament.
The extracurricular activities include drawing, painting, music, dance and drama, public speaking, NCC, and various club activities (club activities form a part of the curriculum from class VI onwards).

SportsThe application forms for L.K.G are made available in the school campus as well as on the school website. The filled in forms should be submitted in the school office within a week of collecting the form. For parents downloading the forms online, a duplicate of the filled in application form is required to be brought to the school at the time of submission.
Duly filled application forms must be accompanied with birth certificate, address proof (Ration card/Aadhar card/Bank passbook) and community certificate (BC, MBC, SC, ST).
