Established in 1925 by two Irish Christian Brothers, St. Edward’s School, Shimla is reckoned among the best and oldest schools in Shimla. The school is managed by Simla Chandigarh Educational Society under the Bishop of Simla Chandigarh Diocese. Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, the school offers classes from Nursery through class XII with English as the medium of instruction.
St. Edward’s School aims at providing world class quality education, helping students to develop as mature individuals with concrete ethical values and ideologies. The primary objective of the school is to cultivate a selfless attitude among its students.
The 4 acre St. Edward’s School, Shimla campus hosts well lit classrooms with ample display boards for art exhibition. The school auditorium serves as an arena for co-curricular activities such as debates, quiz programmes, seminars, annual concerts etc. Well-equipped laboratories have been provides for subjects like mathematics, science, geography and computers.
The school also hosts a well-stocked library, a basketball court and three play fields for its students.
Affiliated with CBSE, St. Edward’s School, Shimla offers schooling from Nursery through class XII. Students are prepared for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) conducted at the end of class X and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) conducted at the end of class XII.

The school aims at providing a very comfortable learning atmosphere during the critical years of the child’s development and instilling in children social skills through the concept of “skill learning” which further aids in their personality development.
Secondary School
The school firmly believes that education needs to be universal and cover all aspects like physical education, value education, music, art and craft and environmental education which are the key ingredients of learning.
The subjects offered for class X are English, Hindi, mathematics, science, physical and health education, social science, art and craft and work experience.
Senior Secondary School
The school offers Commerce and Science streams at the senior secondary level. Keeping in mind that these are considered as formative years for the student, the school ensures that the child is dealt with prudence and given proper guidance to set his goals right.
The teaching methodology of the school is based on ‘learning by doing’ that involves activity based learning. It includes brain storming, analysis, experiments, creativity, logical thinking and reasoning.
Co-curricular activities include debates, quiz competitions, sports day and annual functions. Students are also encouraged to participate in various clubs such as sports, cultural, computer, eco, art and craft, singing, dramatics, science and maths clubs.
Sports include football, cricket, badminton, carom and table tennis. The school also organises various trips and excursions as part of the students’ recreational activities.

SportsFor admission in Nursery at St. Edward’s School, Shimla, the child should be between 3 to 4 years.
Documents required at the time of registration:
– One duly attested photo copy of the child’s birth certificate.
– Two passport size photographs of the boy.
– One self-addressed 15cm x 9 cm envelope with Rs 5/- postage stamp pasted on it to convey the result.
– In the absence of any of the above, the registration will be considered incomplete.
