Founded in 2008, Stonehill International School is one of the most widely reputed international schools in Bangalore, India. The school offers are an IB curriculum and is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Stonehill is also a member of the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA).

Stonehill students and faculty comprise 35 different nationalities. The school’s mission statement is “To provide stimulating, engaging academics integrated with enhanced opportunities for technological innovation, sports, and the arts.”

Campus

Spread over 34 acres, Stonehill’s lush green campus, near the International Airport, offers ample space and infrastructure for sporting, cultural, and leisure activities. Besides state-of-the-art classrooms, the world-class facilities include a 25-metre temperature-controlled swimming pool, synthetic turf football field, tennis and volleyball courts, dedicated buildings for the arts and  STEM subjects, a state-of-the-art library, and a multi-purpose sports hall. Stonehill also prides itself on modern boarding houses and a fully equipped cafeteria that serves nutritious and healthy meals.

University Placement Programme

The school’s Career and College Counselling Department works with students from Grade 9 onwards to identify their aptitude, understand their interests, and guide them towards colleges that will help them meet their academic and personal goals. Stonehill graduates have been accepted to some of the most prestigious universities across the globe including, Carnegie Mellon University, London School of Economics, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Toronto, University of St. Andrews, Imperial College London, Kings College London, University College London (UCL), University of Cambridge, National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), University of Amsterdam, Stanford University, MIT, Dartmouth College, NYU, University of Melbourne, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, University of British Columbia, and many more.

English as an additional language (EAL)

Stonehill offers support to non-native English-speaking students. Individual programmes are developed to enable English language acquisition in students. To aid faster learning, EAL students are included in regular classes, as often as possible.

Sports

Through the school’s sports programme, importance is given to not just students’ health and fitness, but also to develop skills, learning to work in teams and building leadership and personal growth. Stonehill students also compete regularly with teams from other schools in Bangalore, India, and Asia. Swimming, tennis, equestrian sports, basketball, football, volleyball, and cricket are just a few of the school’s sports offerings.

The Arts

Stonehill uses the creative arts to promote attitudes such as empathy and appreciation, and skills such as analysis, that help see the uniqueness of each person as well as explore the commonalities that connect each other. The school has a dedicated Arts Centre, that has purpose-built spaces for music, visual art, and drama. We also offer private music lessons for instruments such as piano, guitar, drums, violin and cello along with numerous opportunities to perform at concerts, assemblies and other gatherings.

Technology

Stonehill has a 1:1 policy for devices and its students use a wide variety of tools to communicate, collaborate, research, and create. In Primary School, the digital citizenship programme teaches students to be safe and responsible in the online world. They use an all-in-one digital platform for planning, assessments, portfolios, projects, and reports, which they can independently navigate. Learning is supported through the Makerspace where digitally enhanced Lego and robotics work alongside the traditional elements of design, sewing, and construction. Technology in Secondary School is seamlessly integrated into all subjects. Additionally, Product Design, Digital Design, Design Technology, and Computer Science are offered as subjects.

Admission

Stonehill invites applications from students aged 3 to 17 (Nursery to Grade 11). All students are eligible for admission if it is believed that the school can provide an educational programme that can meet their particular needs. The school is staffed to provide learning support to students with mild learning disabilities. Children with a native language other than English may be required to take oral and written English examinations.

Achievement

The Stonehill curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad programme that extends learning beyond the academic to the social, ethical, physical, creative and emotional development of each child.

 

Accommodation

Stonehill offers weekly and full-time boarding options to students. The residential programme at Stonehill is for students from Grade 6 onwards, and is designed to extend learning the IB way through academics, extracurricular activities, and the social aspects of boarding. It offers students a home away from home, with spacious and comfortable living areas, and access to a host of extracurricular activities. The small number of boarding students provides a warm atmosphere and creates a sense of community. The boarding houses at Stonehill feature twin and quad-sharing rooms, a common lounge, and a study room. The houses are supported by a cafeteria, a fitness centre, and a 24-hour medical centre. Experienced House Parents, tutors, and service staff take care of children and their individual needs.

 

 

Updates

Stonehill International School commemorates 11th founder’s day with a 10k marathon

Stonehill International School recently organized a 1OK marathon commemorating its 11th founder’s day. Held in the campus of the school, the run saw close to 700 participants across different categories. It included a half marathon, 10K, corporate relay (men/women/mixed), open relay (mixed) as well as a non-competitive 5K run.

The run, which celebrates the legacy of the school gave corporate professionals a platform to meet and interact with their colleagues in a competitive environment. Mr. Jitu Virwani, founder of Stonehill International School and Chairman & Managing Director of Embassy Group, flagged off the event and attended the prize distribution ceremony along with Mr. Brian Brumsickle, Head of Stonehill International School.

Speaking about the occasion, Virwani said, “Founded in 2008, Stonehill International School was born out of the need of an education system that prepares students to be successful in a constantly evolving and competitive environment. We at Stonehill are extremely delighted to have accomplished 11 years of nurturing students to become resilient global citizens.”

The winner in the half marathon men’s category was Sanjay Negi, with a timing of 01:21:13 and Ashwini Bhat from the women’s category with a span of 02:00:28 minutes. In the corporate relay, Toyota Kirloskar won the men’s category, Samsung from the women’s category and Infosys from the mixed category.

Brumsickle said, “At Stonehill, we encourage our students to live a balanced and healthy life and we were delighted to host the Stonehill Founder’s Day Run. It was an excellent opportunity for the community to come together and participate in this wonderful event.”

 

City girls shine in STEM Education

Diya Gopinath (Grade 11), Maya Saldanha (Grade 11) and Jayati Gupta (Grade 12) students of Stonehill International School, Bengaluru, have been accepted into The Junior Academy, an initiative of the New York Academy of Sciences’ Global STEM Alliance (GSA).

The Global STEM Alliance consists of a variety of STEM education programmes, including The Junior Academy, which is a global talent identification and cultivation network with more than 300 partners in over 100 countries. Its purpose is to prepare the next generation of innovators through three key programme areas: mentorship, innovation challenges, and career and college readiness.

As members of The Junior Academy, Diya, Maya, and Jayati will have the opportunity to collaborate with nearly 3,000 students from 94 countries on virtual challenges sponsored by industry-leading companies and hosted on the Academy’s innovation platform, Launchpad. Students will tackle the Intelligent Homes and Health Challenge, where they will design innovative ways to transform home life and healthcare and the Space Challenge, where students will explore space colonization.
